The Theatre Guild production of A Moon for the Misbegotten had its official tryout opening on February 20, 1947 in Columbus, Ohio. It went on to Pittsburgh, Detroit, and St. Louis. Dissatisfied with the casting of both Mary Welch as Josie Hogan and James Dunn as Jamie Tyrone, the Guild then closed the production, intending to recast it for the following season. However, the play was not to be seen on Broadway during O'Neill's lifetime.
