Provincetown,
Mass. Sept. 2, 1919. My dear Madden: I am enclosing herewith the letter from your London agent. It doesn't read as if there was much chance for the one-act plays, but still Benrimo may have something up his sleeve which Bright doesn't know about. Let's hope so. I am only too glad to have the Equity do "In The Zone" if they want to. The Vagabond Players of Baltimore, Md. are going to do one or more of the one-act plays this winter. I gave their manager permission last fall but through some fix-up they didn't get to it last season. They pay twenty-five dollars for eight performances -- not so bad compared to most of the Little Theatres. I have written them to make the check payable through you when they send it. Of course, I realize that this damned strike has everything all balled up but it seems as if it would have to end soon or break the whole bunch, and I am relying on you to send me some definite word regarding "Beyond" and "The Straw" as soon as things clear up. You naturally can imagine how anxious I am with all my own plans held in abeyance until I get some positive information to go ahead on. With very best regards, Very sincerely yours, Eugene O'Neill |
