Provincetown, Mass. Oct. 23, 1919. My dear Madden: Not having had any word from you, I conclude Williams is keeping up the old stalling game. If you have had nothing definite from him by the time you receive this, I think you ought to force him to a showdown. He cannot in reason postpone a decision any longer. If "Beyond" is to open within the contract time rehearsals will have to start almost immediately. Failure to start them can only mean one thing -- that he does not intend to keep his word. In which case, the play will be free to all intents and purposes and I will send you my copy so that it may be submitted elsewhere without loss of time.
