O'Neill signed the limitation pages for this edition while in Bermuda. He received between 1,700 and 1,800 sheets to be autographed, instead of the 1,250 to which the edition was supposed to be limited. O'Neill accused Liveright of fraud, believing that Liveright secretly intended to print and sell several hundred additional copies without paying O'Neill his royalties. As it turned out, Liveright was not at fault, as the printer had mailed O'Neill the extra sheets as a margin for spoilage. |
